Gino's was founded by the Marino family, originally from Sicily, in 1966. The restaurant operated on Perkins Road before moving to its current home at 4542 Bennington Avenue in 1975, where it has stayed for over 55 years.
The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society named an annual award after the family's matriarch, whose portrait hangs in the dining room, a quiet reminder of who this table has always been for.
Chefs Angelo and Vincenzo work the line at Gino's, with the family never far from the kitchen.
The dining room is built for slow evenings: etched glass reminiscent of Italy, a cozy fireplace, copper tabletops and candlelight throughout. It's a room that has won Best Italian, Best Date and Most Romantic, year after year, from local readers' polls.
Thursday nights bring live jazz. The wine cellar holds over three hundred selections. Neither has ever needed to be loud about it.
